White Horse Relay

To Do

1. Contact:
   • Parish Clerks: Talk to those through whose parishes the relay passes.
   • Contact farmers across whose land we pass.
   • Have tried to get in touch with Farmer Richard Oatley concerning Stage 1. Have sent an e-mail to stephenleonard@wiltshire.gov.uk asking for help (q.v.)
2. Complete the pioneering runs, 1 stage left to do
3. Conduct Risk Assessment runs of each stage to check for Danger/Hazard points, necessary marshalling points, accuracy of route description and car parking availability.
4. Publicity - Ask runners to leave handouts at all events to which they go.

5. We need
   • Race Numbers for each runner - e.g. Team number + Stage number - Running Bath will supply
   • We need bibs/tabards for each marshal
   • Prizes - Souvenir and winners (3 teams of 7 runners each)
6. Drink stations: Sainsbury's have been asked to supply 300 small bottles of water - awaiting confirmation.
7. Clarify parking places (see Risk Assessment above) and, in certain cases, ask permission.

4. Brief Description of Course: Around the 8 visible Wiltshire White Horses mainly following the White Horse Trails.
   • This is a multi terrain event.
   • The event will follow public rights of way with the exception of
     1. Stage 2 which uses a footpath belonging to Lower Foxhangers' Farm/Boat Company, with their permision
        and the canal towpath, permission has been requested from BWB.
     2. Stage 5 which uses land belonging to the Horton's of Broad Hinton, with their permission
   • There are no major road crossings during any stage but team captains will be made aware of the minor roads which they will be required to marshal.
   • No route crosses a railway line other than by a bridge or a tunnel

7. Lowest age limit of competitors: 16 years

    Each team will be required to supply Marshals to marshal one stage each of the relay. These marshals will be given instructions for the minimum marshaling required. Each team captain will be advised to ask each member of his/her team to pioneer their stages of the relay prior to race day.
